Filling a Community Need
On the surface, Washington County is such a beautiful, idyllic place to live that residents are often not aware of those in need, or the social trends that can weaken our community.
Mission Brenham is a team of Christians working together to identify the challenges in our area, improve the lives of our less-fortunate neighbors, and reverse destructive societal trends for the good of the community.
By reaching out to individuals and families with love, compassion, and opportunity, we inspire them to transform their lives spiritually and economically. We help them become self-reliant, and some emerge as leaders to help guide their peers.
In short, we're building a community that is happier, stronger, more resilient, and unified by Christian values.

“Growing up in Brenham, I remember driving past neighbors that God clearly wanted me to love – but I never gave them a second thought. Now God has opened my eyes, and I can’t ignore my neighbors anymore. I must spend my life obeying my Lord’s command…whatever the cost.”

Our History
In 1994, the pastors of three local churches — Calvary Baptist, First Baptist, and Fellowship Baptist — took a long, analytical look at their congregations and the community as a whole. Their congregations were filled with wonderful, Christian families, but the pastors soon realized that their congregations included only a small subset of the Washington County population.
How, they wondered, could they build a ministry to encompass the entire community? They envisioned a world in which Christians of all races, ethnicities, and cultural and economic backgrounds would join together for fellowship and support.
Together, the three pastors launched the inception of Mission Brenham, with the help of Independence Association, the Brenham Housing Authority, and the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
Mission Brenham hired Marcus Lawhon as Director in 1995, to manage its daily operations and provide spiritual guidance. Since that time, we have worked to establish relationships of trust and support throughout the community.
Today, our ministry continues to grow in both strength and spirit.
